My husband and I have drove past The Red Wagon many times before we decided to stop in for brunch.
The Red Wagon is located on the corner of East Hastings and Garden Drive and by the time we arrived there was already a number of people gathered outside waiting for a table. We were lucky that we were only a table of two as we were able to be seated right away.
Adding to that ‘diner’ feeling of the exterior building is the art deco that lines the walls on the inside of the restaurant. Basic tables and chairs, an old rusted Coca-Cola sign and chalkboard menus all provided character and charm to the space.
I decided to try the Pulled Pork Pancakes with Jack Daniels maple syrup. Layered between the 3 fluffy buttermilk pancakes was the pulled pork belly. The pork was succulent and packed with flavor thanks to the house rub and tangy bbq sauce but amazingly the pancakes themselves were the star of the dish. Without hesitation this is one dish I recommend you try at least once.
My husband decided to try the Crispy Pork Confit with Eggs. Although he preferred the Pork Belly to have been crispy he still felt the dish had a lot of wonderful flavors thanks to the hollandaise sauce and the salsa verde.
We were also very pleased with the quick and attentive service.
If you are looking for a unique dining experience and are keen to try dishes you will not find in any other Vancouver restaurant, let alone a diner, The Red Wagon is certainly worth a visit.
